Gussie A. “Dolly” (Charido) Fern
PEABODY—Gussie A. “Dolly” (Charido) Fern, beloved wife of Ralph P. Fern of Peabody, died peacefully at her home on Friday morning following a long illness.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rose (Corso) Charido. She lived in Revere for many years and graduated from Revere High School.
“Dolly”, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed bowling and was President of the Rolling Hills Women’s Bowling League where she bowled for many years. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She will also be remembered as a great Italian cook who loved to entertain her family and friends, and enjoyed cheering on the Boston Red Sox. Dolly will mostly be remembered as a nurturing wife, mother and grandmother as she lived the example of dedication to family—her children and lovingly cherished grandchildren, as her husband Ralph shared the same dedication by caring for her during the last seven years at their home following her stroke.
She is survived by: her husband, Ralph P. Fern of Peabody, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage; one son, Ralph P. Fern, III of TX; three daughters, Kristin Marciano of Peabody, Rosemary Gray & her husband John of PA, and Pamela Fern of Danvers; four grandchildren, Michael Marciano, Bethany Gray, Danielle Clarke and her husband Brian, and Brittany Rose Buttrick; three brothers, Salvatore Charido of Reading, Anthony & Betty Charido of Lynn, and Augustine Charido of Boston, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph Marciano, and brothers Frank Charido who died in the Korean War, and Matthew Charido.
A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday at 8 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mas
