Obituary of Edward M. Sullivan

Edward M. Sullivan, 76, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Monday evening at Salem Hospital. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Michael and Cecelia (Lynch) Sullivan. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1950. After high school, he entered the military and served with the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. After the war, Ed worked for the United States Government as a letter carrier for the US Post Office in Peabody for over 35 years before retiring in 1992. Ed became very involved in AA in 1975 and ran the AA Marblehead Chapter for over 34 years, he also served as Treasurer. Ed was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all of Boston’s professional sports teams. He also was a member of the A.O.H. Division 11 in Peabody. To relax he enjoyed taking walks, golfing and driving to scenic locations around New England, he actually had 276,000 miles on his 2002 Toyota. Ed was a true humanitarian, he always reached out to people and families in need, and he put others before himself and was a man who could be counted on. Ed is survived by a brother, Joseph (Sonny) Sullivan of Peabody, to whom he was devoted to, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Alan Barteaux and Mary and Thomas Mulherin, all of Peabody, two nieces, Audrey Marble and Brenda McFeeters, and a nephew, Kevin Mulherin, his close friend, Dave Riley of Peabody and by several great nieces and nephews. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street Peabody followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
