Obituary of Antonio N. Lopes
Antonio Lopes of Peabody, died peacefully Sunday morning at his home with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Maria Lopes with whom he shared over 67 years of marriage.
Born in Gouveia, Portugal, he was the son of the late Albert and Alzira (Andrade) Lopes. He was raised and educated in Portugal and in 1959 he immigrated to the United States and has been a resident of Peabody for the past 50 years.
Antonio first worked in the leather shops in Peabody and later he worked independently as a T.V. Technician until his retirement.
Antonio enjoyed traveling to his native homeland Portugal, visiting with his many friends and relatives. He also enjoyed visiting and spending time on Cape Cod. He was a soccer enthusiast, enjoyed dancing, and he loved children and in his retirement he volunteered his time as a crossing guard. He also served in several capacities on the CLC Committee in Peabody
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Elizabeth Lopes of Danvers, a brother, Americo and his wife Lorraine Lopes of Peabody, five sisters, Lucinda De Almeida, Alzira and her husband Manny Bettencourt, and Carmelita and her husband Marques, all of Peabody, and Doriette and her husband Albert Paciencia and Ascencao Marques, both of Portugal, a brother-in-law, Thomas Coito of Peabody, his two grandchildren, Tiffany Lopes of Peabody who was his main care giver at home, and Scott Lopes of Danvers, and a great granddaughter, Ciara Skoczylas of Peabody, and also by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albert Lopes and Maria Coito and brother-in-law of the late George De Almeida, Fernando Marques, and Irene Lopes.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
