Obituary of Robert R. Mello
Robert Roger Mello, 74, of Gloucester and formerly of Peabody, died Wednesday at the Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester after a brief illness. He was the husband of Nellie M. (Butmen) Mello with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
He was born in Salem, Ma on October 1, 1934, the son of the late Joseph and M. Constane (Lewis) Mello. He had resided in Peabody and was a graduate of the Salem Vocational School.
He had been employed at the 3-M Plastics company in Chelmsford for over 30 years prior to his retirement 9 years ago.
Robert was very active in the Beverly Lodge of Elks, No 1309 and had served as exalted ruler for two terms in 1989 -1990 and in 1993-1994. He was the Elk of the Year in 1991 and was chairman of the Veterans Committee for the Chelsea Soldier’s Home for the Beverly Lodge of Elks, a committee he loved so much.
He was a great dart player and started his own team, the Sur-Vi-Vors. He also loved camping, playing with his dog Codie and his hobby of tending to chickens.
Surviving him besides his wife are his children and their spouses, Robert R. Jr. and Terry Mello and Elizabeth and Dana Milne all of Peabody, David and Beth Mello of Raymond, NH, John Mello of Bradford, James Mello of Gloucester, his step-children, Jay Imhof of Essex and Yvette Imhof of Peabody, his seven grandchildren, his brothers and sister-in-law, Jack and Rosemary Mello of Peabody and Joseph Mello of Danvers and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Constance Denis and Nancy Le Vasseur.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility (Downtown). His Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
