Obituary of John Bagarella
John Bagarella, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Everett, died Thursday afternoon at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Gwen (Whiddicomb) Bagarella.
Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie Bagarella. He was raised and educated in Everett and attended Everett Public Schools. He has lived in Peabody for the past 28 years.
John was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal and the American and European Theatre Ribbons as well. He continued serving his country during the Korean War and was honorable discharged from the Navy on June 30, 1953.
After the war, John worked an additional 25 years for the United States Government as a mail handler for the United States Post at the South Boston Annex Post Office. He also worked as a plasterer doing dry wall and ceilings.
John enjoyed traveling with his wife to Foxwood’s Casino and Las Vegas and playing bingo.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lucy Bagarella of North Carolina, Peter and Carol Bagarella of Peabody and Alan and Eileen Bagarella of Danvers, a daughter, Jacqueline Bagarella and her companion, Carmine Bonito of Peabody, a sister, Mamie and her husband Joe Paratore of Melrose, and is also survived by nine grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visiting Hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Funeral Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
