Obituary of Lydia (Bettencourt) Pais
Lydia M. (Bettencourt) Pais, 87, of Peabody, wife of the late George Sousa Pais, passed through the Gates of Heaven on Thursday November 20, 2008.
Lydia was born in Lowell on February 22, 1921 daughter of the late John and Rose (Inacio) Bettencourt. She was raised and educated in Lowell and moved to Peabody following her marriage to George.
In her youth Lydia was employed at Flynn Leather Company in Salem, Deerskin Trading Post in Peabody and later at Connolly’s Candy Shop in Salem and then spent the remainder of her life as a housewife. She dedicated her entire life to her family and most recently to her 2 great grandchildren.
Lydia is survived by her 2 sons, George S. Pais Jr. and his significant other Christine Willcox-Jones of Salisbury and Roy Pais and his wife Lisa of Peabody; her grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Pais, Amy and Justin Cole, Tara and Michael Demaso, Megan and Madison Pais; her 2 great grandchildren, Maya and Rowan Cole and many nieces and nephews. Her sisters Mary Nunes, Alice Sharn, Francis Littlefield, Gloria LeClair and Marion Ozana predeceased her.
A family service will be held Monday at 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (new location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 PM Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
