Obituary of Ruth (Sheridan) Fitzgerald

Ruth (Sheridan) Fitzgerald, 85, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died early Sunday morning at the Union Hospital in Lynn following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Robert F. Fitzgerald. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Taylor) Sheridan. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. She continued her education at Salem State Teachers College and received her Bachelor of Art Degree in Education. She has lived in Peabody for the past 58 years. While living in Lynn, she sang professionally with her sister during the 1940’s, live on the radio, they were the Sheridan Sisters. She continued her singing throughout the North Shore in various venues and when she moved to Peabody she joined the choir at St. Ann’s Church where she sang for many years. After college, Ruth taught at the elementary school level for a few years before giving way to raising her children. She later went back to teaching as a substitute teacher before retiring many years ago. Besides her loving husband Robert, Ruth is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ruth Fitzgerald of Medfield, and daughter and son-in-law, Noreen and Bill Clarke of Holly Springs, North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, Ian Clarke and his fiancé Sara Nicosia of Nashua, NH, Heather and her husband Gene Powell of Raleigh, NC, and Robert, Peter, and Ann Fitzgerald of Medfield. She was the sister of the late Alice Pronco. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
