Obituary of Walter H. Grusheski

Walter H. Grusheski, 92, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning surrounded by his family at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Lewandowski) Grusheski who died in 2002. He was born in Fords, N.J. on May 19, 1916 the son of the late George and Julia (Wnek) Grusheski and was raised there before moving to Peabody 76 years ago. Wally had been employed at the Remis Leather Company as a shop- foreman for over 45 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Leo Council # 508 Knights of Columbus and also bowled with the Knights Bowling League for many years. He had been an active member of the former St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody and had belonged to St. Michael’s Society. As a youth, he enjoyed horseback riding on the family farm in New Jersey. Following his retirement, he and his wife Mildred enjoyed the summers at their cottage in Hampton, NH and while driving up there on weekends, would stop at all the yard sales. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed planting flowers in his garden. In his later years he became a regular at the Spectrum Elder Care in Beverly and enjoyed playing cards and socializing. Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and William Emmett of Groveland, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Roberta Grusheski of Perkasie, PA, a brother-in-law, William Swiderski of Peabody, 4 grandchildren, Randy K. Emmett of East Kingston, NH, Steven W. Emmett of Weston, Fl., Sharon Teague of Peabody and Rory Grusheski of Perkasie, Pa., 8 great grandchildren, Danielle and Jessica Emmett, Cana Sofia , Michaelina, James William and Ambrose Teague, and Ireland D. and Marley D. Grusheski and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Colin Grusheski and the brother of the late John and Antek Grusheski and Stella Swiderski. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell ST., West Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to North Shore Elder Services, 152 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
