Obituary of Irene M. (McKinnon) Morrissey
Irene M. (McKinnon) Morrissey, 87, of Peabody, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. She was the devoted wife of the late Paul J. Morrissey with whom she had shared 59 years of marriage.
Mrs. Morrissey was born in Lynn on March 20, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (LeBlanc) McKinnon. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Jean High School Class of 1939. She resided in Lynn and Saugus before moving to Peabody in 1951.
Irene was the most outgoing and caring person that most people would remember and she would always great everyone with open arms especially at her favorite Christmas Eve Holiday gathering. Her family was first and foremost. Later when her grandchildren were born and were growing up she made sure to support them during their many activities. Irene was a brilliant cook, joke teller, master and champion bridge player, bowler, dancer, an avid golfer and also enjoyed doing needlepoint. Unfortunately, her many activities came to an abrupt end when she suffered a stroke but even that did not stop Irene from always smiling and as such she will always be remembered by many as a member of the “Not to worry clubâ€.
Irene is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Jeff P. and Joanne Morrissey of Amesbury, Dennis J. and Susan Morrissey of Nashua NH and Brian D. and Irene Morrissey of Peabody; her cherished grandchildren, Jay, Danny, Dr. Darlene, Ray, Eddy and Kevin; her precious gift of her great grandson, Hayden Matthew; a special niece, Carol Sullivan of Peabody and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her many girlfriends. Her siblings Eva, Henry and Arthur McKinnon and Ida Cruciani predeceased her.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., ( new location) Peabody. Burial will in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Shrine, 308 N Paca St., Baltimore, MD 21201.
