Obituary of Maria Alice (Pereira) Soares

Maria Alice (Pereira) Soares, 90, of Peabody, died unexpectedly early Saturday at the Lahey Clinic North in Peabody. She was the wife of the late Francisco M. Soares. She was born in Horta, Faial, Azores Island in Portugal on May 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Lazaro and Rosalina (Ribeiro) Pereira and was raised there before coming to Cambridge, MA forty two years ago. She was first employed as a seamstress at the Paramount Coat Company of Cambridge and later worked at the Hewlett-Packard Plant in Andover for 7 years prior to her retirement. She was a resident of Peabody for the past 10 years and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She enjoyed doing crocheting, knitting and cooking. She is survived by her daughter , Maria Luz Soares of Peabody, a son and daughter-in-law, Sergio and Maria Fatima Soares of Burlington, MA, two sisters, Maria Celeste Botelho of St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and Maria de Lurdes Pereira of Faial, Azores, Portugal, 2 grandchildren, Melanie and Rodney Soares of Burlington, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Sergio Pereira and Maria Lucia Pereira. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Anthony's Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave, Cambridge, MA 02141.
