Obituary of Phillip A. Kurkowski

Phillip A. Kurkowski, 56, of Peabody died Monday morning at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Carolyn (Pinkham) Kurkowski. Born in Salem, he was the son of Josephine (Kasprzyk) Kurkowski of Peabody and the late Alphonse Kurkowski. He was a life long resident of Peabody, attended Peabody Public Schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1970. After high school, Phillip enlisted with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served his country for three years in the military intelligence division before being honorable discharged in 1974. Phillip then worked for over thirty years for the General Electric Company at the River Works plant in Lynn as a Plant Protection Officer. He enjoyed traveling with his family and bowling, he also was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching all of Boston’s professional sports teams and the NFL, and was a die hard Patriots fan. Besides his loving wife, Phillip is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Jacqueline Kurkowski of Stoneham, and Matthew and Timothy Kurkowski, both of Peabody, and is also survived by a niece and many dear friends. He was the brother of the late Frank Kurkowski. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
