Obituary of Sr. Mary Cornelius Duffy, SND

Sister Mary Cornelius Duffy SND, 95, of Ipswich, died on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Residence in Ipswich. Sister Mary was born on October 9, 1913 in Boston, Anna Teresa Duffy; she was the daughter of the late Neil and Marie (McGrath) Duffy. She entered the Sister's of Notre Dame at Waltham on August 9, 1931, professed her First Vows on January 25, 1934 and her Perpetual Vows on July 31, 1939. Sister received her education at Emmanuel College and the University of Hawaii. Her ministries were in Dorchester, Tyngsboro, Leominster, Worcester, Beverly, Honolulu, Cambridge and Ipswich. Sr. Mary is survived by her sister, Dorothea of Florida, her many Sisters of Notre Dame and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gertrude Holmes, Ruth Lally, Catherine Duffy, and William Duffy. Sister's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 3:30 PM in Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 1:30 until 3:30 pm at the Sister's of Notre Dame, Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich at a later date
