Louis P. Walor, Sr.
BEVERLY—Louis P. Walor, Sr., beloved husband of Margaret (Davison) Walor of Beverly, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Unora (Bouras) Walor. He lived in Peabody in his youth where he also attended schools.
He entered the United States Navy during World War II where he served on the USS New York.
Mr. Walor started his career early as a young child. He took fruits and vegetables from his family farm by his little wagon going to homes in his Peabody neighborhood. After the war, he and his partner William Davison opened Davison & Walor Market on Bridge St. in Beverly. Later, in 1957, he opened the IGA Foodliner in Hamilton, then in the 1970’s to 1980’s he was a Food Broker with Pezro Foods which sold to smaller stores and grocerettes. After retiring, he continued working at Hannaford’s Store in West Peabody until a few years ago.
Louis loved golfing, and was a member at the Wenham Golf Club. He earned the distinction of having a Hole in One. He was a Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus in Beverly, enjoyed bowling in the K of C league, the ICC Italian Club of Beverly, and trips to Foxwoods and other casinos. He was enthusiastically proud of his Polish heritage, and listened to Polka music and enjoyed the social times at Polish Picnics around the North Shore. He valued his faith and family, was an Usher at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Beverly, active in the Drum & Bugle Corps there, and will be remembered for his dedication and love for family, friends, and going to wherever a great social gathering was happening.
He is survived by: his wife, Margaret E. (Davison) Walor of Beverly, with whom he shared nearly 67 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, L. Peter & Sandra (Belleau) Walor of Beverly; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane & Rod Spear of Boothbay, ME and Peggy Walor of West Covina, CA; four grandchildren, Kevin Walor & Laurie Sachs of Hudson, MA; David & Tara Walor of Beverly; Lester & Pam Spear of Boothbay, ME and Carey Spear of ME; six great-grandchildren, George Walor of Hudson, Paige & Jake Walor of Beverly, and Camden, Simon, & Ella Spear of ME; one brother, Frederick “Pat”& his wife Eleanor Walor of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe, Michael, Frank, Bruno, Stanley, and Walter Walor, Nellie, Helen, and Julia.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday at 10 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Cabot St., Beverly. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations are requested to the ??
