Obituary of Anne N. (Nohelty) Newman
Anne N. (Nohelty) Newman, 95, of Peabody, wife of the late Calvin A. Newman, died on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Salem Hospital NSMC after a brief illness.
Mrs. Newman was born in Lynn on December 12, 1913 the daughter of the late Michael and Emma H. (Purdon) Nohelty. Raised in Lynn she graduated from St. Mary's High School class of 1931. She resided in Lynn before moving to Peabody 60 years ago.
Mrs. Newman dedicated her life to her children and later in life enjoyed her 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren whom she cherished. She was a member of the Peabody Council on Aging and the Golden Agers and also volunteered at the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody. For many years she and her late husband traveled extensively and she also loved working in her yard and cooking. Many South Peabody residents would remember her walking in their neighborhood until 2 years ago.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her children and their spouses, Frederick A. "Fred" and Shirley Newman of Cincinnati OH, Robert A. "Bob" and Teresa Newman of Tallahassee FL and Douglas A. Newman of Peabody and his significant other Mary Ruehrwein of Wakefield; her grandchildren, Kevin Newman, Julie Newman, Sara Davis, David Newman and Kathleen Ferry; 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her many friends at the Torigian Center. Her 5 brothers and sisters predeceased her.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center, 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960 or to St. John Preparatory School, 72 Spring St., Danvers MA 01923.
