Obituary of Mary (Maistrellis) Biskas

Mary (Maistrellis) Biskas, 91, wife of the late William Biskas, died on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover. Mrs. Biskas was born in Peabody on August 10, 1917 the daughter of the late William and Athena Maistrellis. Mary was the loving and devoted daughter and cared for her mother until the time of her death. Raised in Peabody she graduated from Peabody High School class of 1935 and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Biskas began her working career after completing her high school and was employed as a sales person at the Empire Clothing Company in Salem. She later worked in the same capacity at Adasko’s Boutique returning to Empire’s Clothing store. She retired in 1986 after 50 years of employment. Mary enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope at St. Vasilios also enjoyed traveling, reading and cross-stitching as a hobbies. Mary is survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was the Godmother of her grandnephews, Stephen Zaimes of Andover and Jason Buchanan of Beverly and grandaunt to a special grandniece, Andrea Zaimes of Andover who was her caretaker for many years and great grandaunt to several great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Her brothers Stephen W. Maistrellis, George “Lefty” Maistrellis and Charles “Boobie” Maistrellis predeceased her. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 12 noon at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. At her request there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
