Obituary of Anna C. (Butz) Phyles

Anna C. (Butz) Phyles PEABODY—Anna C. (Butz) Phyles, 100, beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Phyles, mother of Pastor Raymond Phyles of St. John Lutheran Church of Peabody, died peacefully Saturday afternoon February 21, 2009 at the Essex Park Rehab in Beverly following a long illness. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Mantz) Butz. She lived in the Baltimore area for most of her life, and moved up to Peabody for the last four years as her son’s family provided the comfort and care with her illness. Mrs. Phyles was a Retail Sales Clerk with Hutzler’s Department Store in Baltimore for 25 years. Anna enjoyed nature by gardening, and also embroidery, sewing, and movies. She will be remembered for her faithful devotion, nurturing of family, and a spirited personality that served her well in ushering a century of life. She is survived by: her son, Pastor Raymond Phyles & his wife Linda of Peabody; three grandchildren, Cheryl Cormier & her husband Richard Cormier, Jr., Heather Phyles, and Kristin Phyles; two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Annalise Cormier; two sisters, Dorothy Fender and Ruth Kurlis, both of South Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a visitation on Wednesday from 4 to 6 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody.
