Obituary of Dorothy Marie "Dottie" (Bettencourt) Ortins

Dorothy Marie "Dottie" (Bettencourt) Ortins, 87, of Peabody, wife of the late Leon Ortins, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Mrs. Ortins was born in Peabody on July 6, 1921 the daughter of the late Joseph and Rita (Asincao) Bettencourt. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Ortins was employed and retired in 1993 from the Hogan Regional Center in Hathorne as a health care provider. She began her working career as a leather worker in Peabody and later was employed as an assembler at the GTE Sylvania Sylvan Street plant. She dedicated her life to her family and later she was the proud grandmother of 3. Dottie was an avid line dancer who attended many dances on the North Shore until last October. She also enjoyed traveling, taking bus trips, mall walking, knitting and braiding rugs and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Portuguese Benefit Society of Our Lady of Help and the Peabody, Salem and Lynnfield Senior Centers. Mrs. Ortins is survived by her children and their spouses, Judith F. "Judy" Renaud and John J. Renaud III of Titusville FL and Leonard J. "Lenny"and Susan Ortins of Danvers; a sister, Lucy Savageau of Peabody; her cherished grandchildren, John J. Renaud IV, Jeannine R. Renaud both of FL and Michael J. Ortins of Danvers and many nieces and nephews. Her siblings Elsie Parent, Mary "Mae" Paoline and Agnes Iwanicki predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (location) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday, February 27, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
