Obituary of Stephen A. George

Stephen A. George, 89, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Friday afternoon the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Virginia A. (Sousa) George with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Chicopee Falls, he was the son of the late Alexander and Jane (Loggaraki) George. He was raised and educated in Chicopee Falls, later lived in Salem and has spent the last 16 years living in Peabody. He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Marines. After the war, he owned and operated Steve’s Taxi until 1960 and from 1963 until 1983; he owned and operated Dotty and Ray’s in Salem. He was a member of the Salem Elks Lodge # 799, Salem Moose and was a member of the Golden Agers. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Senior Citizen Bowling Team at Metro Bowl in Peabody. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Carroll of Danville, NH, a brother, Nicholas Nichols of Chicopee Falls, and by two grandchildren, Stephen Wheelock and Melissa Cote, both of New Hampshire. He was the grandfather of the late Anthony Wheelock. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
