Obituary of Anna E. (Maklae) Sousa

Anna E. (Maklae) Sousa, 91, of Peabody, died Monday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody following a short illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Victor Sousa. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Erema and Paraska (Hilchuk) Maklae. She was a life long resident of Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School. After high school, she attended Boston University for two years. Along with her husband, she was owner and operator of Vic’s Caterer at 63 Abington Ave in Peabody. She also was a founder member of the Luso American Credit Union in Peabody. Anna was an active member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Salem and served on the board and was past president of St. Nicholas Women’s Guild. She also was involved with the Fellowship of Orthodox Stewards and Federated Orthodox Club, both in New York. She was a member of the Beverly Power Squadron, and the Beverly Pomona Grange and was actively involved with various humane societies. She was a past president of the Massachusetts Club at Broward, Florida as well. She is survived by her loving sister, Olga Cassell of Peabody and by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Maklae, Mary Joseph, and Marion Crosby. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by Services at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St., Salem to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6-8 PM with Memorial Service (Panikhida) held at 7:30 PM. Burial Service will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
