Obituary of Maria Victoria (Serieiro) Monteiro

Maria Victoria (Seriero) Monteiro, 88, wife of the late Joseph Monteiro, died Saturday morning at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport following a brief illness. Born in Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose Pereira Serieiro and Rosa Pereira Neves. She emigrated to the United States after she was married, and was proud to become a U.S. Citizen in 1961. She lived in the Peabody area for many years. She worked as a Seamstress for New England Sportswear in Peabody for 20 years. She later worked for Moore Brothers in Beverly as a Seamstress. Maria moved to the Peabody House on Walnut St. in 2003, and volunteered at the Torigian Life Center on Central St. She offered her gifts as a Seamstress and serving meals to the elderly. She was a very giving person and greatly enjoyed helping others. She was frequently praised for her efforts and this was her proudest achievement. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans and scarves for her friends and family, and donated much of her work. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody for many years. Maria is survived by her only son and and daughter-in-law, George & Judy Monteiro of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Robyn Monteiro and Michael Monteiro, and a sister, Dulce Bicho of Lisbon, Portugal, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday at 10 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02474.
