Obituary of Maria I. Morais

Maria I. Morais, 80, of Peabody, died Sunday at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Bernardo Morais. Born in Guiaes Vila Real, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jeronimo da Silva Letra and Maria de Jesus Monteiro. She was born in Portugal and later lived in Paris, France for eight years and in 1965, she and her family immigrated to the United States and where they have spent the last 44 years living in Peabody. She worked as a solderer for the RCA Electronic Company in Burlington for over ten years before retiring. In her retirement, she was a world traveler. She traveled throughout the United States and in Europe, visiting Portugal, France, Brazil, and Canada. Maria enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, and spending time feeding and entertaining her family and many friends. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Georgette and John Silva and Maria J. and Joseph Flynn, all of Peabody, a sister, Odile Alves of Brazil, two grandchildren and a great grandchild, Danielle Silva, Sherri Silva, Evan J. Silva Bartlett and his father Brent Bartlett, all of Peabody, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews, especially her nephew the pilot. She was the mother of the late Jose Manuel Monteiro Morais and sister of the late Manuel Monteiro da Silva. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
