Obituary of William S. Whitcomb, Sr.
William S. Whitcomb, Sr., 79, of Beverly and formerly of Peabody, died Monday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Phyllis (Blodgett) Whitcomb with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Frank A. Whitcomb Sr. and Maude (Lamb) Whitcomb. He was raised and educated in Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. He has lived in Beverly for the past five years.
After high school, William enlisted with the United States Army and served his country from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1951. He then worked as an auto mechanic at Wentworth Auto Parts in Peabody for over 40 years.
William was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign War and the Cochichewick Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., both in North Andover.
Besides his loving wife Phyllis, he is survived by two sons, William S. Whitcomb Jr. and his wife Diane of Peabody and Michael and Judy Whitcomb of Fitzwilliam, NH, five daughters, Donna and Dennis Brown of Epping, NH, Martha and Edward Quintana of Danvers, Marilyn and Tom O’Brien of Andover, Marjorie and Geraldo Rodrigues of Puerto Rico, and Carol Ann and Jerry Barton of Meredith, NH, four sisters, Dorothy and her husband Richard Thurlow of West Newbury, Arlene and her husband Richard Luz of New Jersey, Sandra and Skip McDonald, and Linda Luz, all of Peabody, he is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. He was the sister of the late Frank A. Whitcomb, Jr., Carol Posocco and Marcia Berger.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
