Obituary of Christos P. Kentros
Christos P. Kentros, 93, of Peabody, loving husband of the late Pauline (Goutzos) Kentros, died on Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody.
Mr. Kentros was born in North Eipiros, Greece on November 22, 1915 the son of the late Philip and Thraine (Zougos) Kentros. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and entered at Ellis Island making his home in Baltimore, MD. On December 28, 1942 he enlisted into the United States Army and served as a Corporal with the 409th Bomb GP 643rd Bomb Sq. and saw battle Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe receiving his honorable discharge on October 3, 1945. He moved to Peabody in 1949 and married Pauline Goutzos on February 13, 1949.
Mr. Kentros began his working career as a bus boy at several New York restaurants. He and his wife were well known in the restaurant industry and owned and operated Kents Restaurant in Peabody Square and later Kents Red Rambler Diner on Foster St. until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Kentros will be well remembered by the citizens of Peabody for his immaculately manicured lawn.
Mr. Kentros is survived by his children and their spouses, John and Jan Kentros, Bessie and Sotirios Korisianos, and Alexandra Loukas all of Peabody; his grandchildren, Peter and Michelle Korisianos, Irene Korisianos, Jenna Kentros all of Peabody, Jason Kentros of Salem and Anthony Loukas of FL; 2 cherished great granddaughters, Gianna and Ava Korisianos of Peabody and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (location) Peabody. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
