Obituary of William S. "Billy" Quinn

Peabody - William "Billy" S. Quinn, age 83, husband of Elizabeth (Keenan) Quinn of Peabody, died peacefully Friday evening surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Quinn was born in Salem, son of the late Maurice W. and Anna G. (Sheridan) Quinn. He was educated in St. James Grammar School, Salem, graduated from Salem Vocational School in 1943 and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Quinn served during World War II along with each of his five brothers. All six Quinn brothers returned home to the North Shore after the war. Mr. Quinn served in India, Burma and China and received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr. Quinn spent his entire career in the construction industry and was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 26. After returning from the war he worked for E.H. Porter, remaining there for over 20 years. He then partnered with Ted Driscoll and formed Driscoll Construction . During his 40 year career, he supervised the construction of many buildings including several area churches and schools. Mr. Quinn served on the Peabody Community Development Authority and was involved in the establishment of the Centennial Industrial Park. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Parish Council of St. John the Baptist. He enjoyed golfing with friends, gardening and spending time on woodworking projects. Above all , he cherished each moment spent with his beloved family. He is predeceased by his five brothers, Richard, John, Maurice, Arthur, James, and one sister Trudy Sparkes. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister Ellye Angelico of California; his four children and their spouses, Anne and Donald Oldmixon of Attleboro, Kevin and Hélène Quinn of Wakefield, Jeanne and Jeff Seaman of Beverly, and MaryEllen and Jeff Widberg of Peabody; his grandchildren Beth Oldmixon of Attleboro and Mark and Lael Oldmixon of Fairbanks, Alaska, Elissa, Jonathan, Casey and Rory Quinn, all of Wakefield, Patrick and Katie Seaman of Beverly and Jared Widberg of Peabody; his many nieces and nephews and close friends. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday at 8 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. John's Church, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
