Obituary of Eleanor R. "Sis" Pierce
Eleanor R. Sis Pierce R.N, 83, of Peabody and Melbourne, Fl., died April 27, at the Rosewood Nursing Center, Peabody after a long illness.
She was born in Peabody on May 28, 1921, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Mulcahy) Pierce, and was a graduate of Peabody High School and the Portland Maine Medical Center Nursing School. She also attended Boston University.
She was first employed at the Bar Harbor, Maine Hospital and later at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody.
She was the school nurse at the Peabody High School for over twenty years before retiring in 1976.
She moved to Boynton Beach in 1978 and later to Melbourne, FL before moving back to Peabody last year.
She had a love for all sports and loved to swim and sun at West Beach in Beverly Farms. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the former Peabody Country Club and the United Shore Golf Club in Beverly and in Florida was a member of Sun Tree Golf Club.
Sis was famous for her Bermuda Bell installed in her cars and also for her love and concern for the Carmelite nuns in Peabody and Danvers.
She is survived by a brother, Robert F. Pierce of Reading, several loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a dear friend, Mary Elizabeth Conway. She was the sister of the late William A. Pierce, Philip Dutchy Pierce and Marie L. Murphy.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Frank Kelley on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 4:00 PM at the Discalced Carmelite Chapel, Mt. Carmel Rd., Danvers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Carmelite Sisters, Mt. Carmel Rd., Danvers, Ma. 01923 or to the Pine Street Inn Development Office, 444 Harrison Ave, Boston, Ma 02118.
