Obituary of James G. Skaliotis
James G. Skaliotis, 87, of Salem, died Saturday morning at the Grosvner Park Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Georgelas) Skaliotis with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late George N. and Pagona (Bougas) Skaliotis. He was raised and educated in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School and has lived in Salem for the past 56 years.
James was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army and was Honorable Discharged in 1946. After the war, he worked as a bar tender for over 45 years in Peabody at the former Central Lunch Café at the corner of Walnut Street and Central Street before retiring in 1985. He also enjoyed playing golf and doing small projects around the house.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Marilyn Skaliotis of Melrose, a daughter, Joanne Skaliotis of Worcester, a brother, Pericles Skaliotis of Rhode Island, a sister-in-law, Mary Skaliotis of Danvers, four grandchildren, Joel and Ross Skaliotis and Alexandra and Aaron Zarenski, and also by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Nicholas and Lefty Skaliotis.
His service will be held on Thursday at 11:15 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by Funeral Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 12:15 PM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
