Obituary of William C. Mello
William C. “Flags” Mello, 86, of Peabody, died Wednesday evening in Winchester following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Lucille (da Sousa) Mello.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Manuel and Antonia Mello. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1942. After high school, he enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country during World War II and was honorable discharged on January 20, 1946.
After the war, William worked in the leather industry in Peabody for many years before joining local 33, the Carpenter’s Union in Boston where he worked for 30 years.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Susan Mello of Wakefield and a daughter, Lori Buckingham of Maine, and is also survived by two grandchildren, Jenna Mello and Lindsey Buckingham.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem
