Obituary of Alzira (Picanco) Bettencourt

Alzira Bettencourt, 83, of Peabody, died Thursday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel Bettencourt. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Coreia and Maria (de Jesus) Picanco. She was raised in Portugal and as a young adult immigrated to the United States where settled in Peabody. She worked for a paper cup manufacturing in Beverly as a packager until her retirement many years ago. She was a long time communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She is survived by two sons, Duarte Bettencourt of Peabody and Lucio Bettencourt of Portugal, a daughter, Mena Bettencourt of Peabody and was one of 16 brothers and sisters. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
