Obituary of Elizabeth Anne (Kirk) Salley

Elizabeth A. (Kirk) Salley, age 82, of Peabody, died at the Beverly Hospital on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 following a courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD). Elizabeth “Beth” was born on June 8, 1926 in Revere, MA to the late Joseph and Emma (McLaughlin) Kirk. She attended the Paul Revere Grade School and graduated from Revere High School in 1944. On July 31, 1948 she was united in marriage to Charles O. Salley in Revere, MA. She was a bookkeeper at the Suburban Electric in Revere and a tax examiner at the IRS office in Andover and had engaged in numerous voluntary endeavors. Beth was a wonderful wife of 61 years, an outstanding mother and a loving friend. She was an avid reader, an exceptional writer of humorous letters, travel chronicles and diaries. With her husband, she traveled extensively throughout Europe, Russia and Northern Africa. She was quick to laugh, quick to tear and always put others before herself. Beth is survived by her husband, Charles O. Salley, her son and his wife, Charles J. and Mary Agnes Salley of Danvers, her daughter and her husband, Joan and Marc Kerble and her grandchild, Lauren Kerble all of North Andover, A, a step-grandson and his wife, Daniel J. Cawley and Patricia, and her step great -grandson, Saemus Cawley all from Norfolk, VA.Beth was the elder cousin to William Witt and his wife Renate of Danbury, CT.; Renee Sacramona of Mobile, AL, Marion Carlson of Marshfield,MA, Martie and her husband Joseph Cuzzi of Waltham, MA, Joseph Mc Laughlin and his wife Roseanne of Medford, MA,a godmother to Theresa Kirk and her son Ryan of Swampscott, MA. She is further survived by her brother-in-law and his wife Paul and Marion Salley of Beverly, MA, her sister-in-law and husband Anne (Salley) and Roland Beisenstein of Mill Valley, CA, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, her only brother and his wife Robert and Virginia Kirk preceded her in death. A Funeral Mass for Elizabeth A. Salley will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 30 at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., West Peabody. The Rev. David Lewis will officiate. Entombment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., West Peabody. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. and on Saturday from 10:00 until 10:30 AM. The family is very grateful and would like to thank all of the staff of the Lahey (Burlington) Clinic, the Kindred Acute Care Hospital, Peabody, the Hunt Rehabilitation Facility of Danvers, and the Beverly Hospital for their kind attention and diligent support during her time with them.
