Obituary of Mary Louise (Goguen) (Varney) Ryder

Mary Louise (Goguen) (Varney) Ryder, 82, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Varney and Harold L. Ryder. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Alice (Pelletier) Goguen. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She later lived in Peabody for 40 years, then retired to Florida for 26 years, and has spent the last four years living back in Peabody. Family was important to Mary Louise and she was a dedicated and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also was active in the community, she served as a Prefect for St. Ann’s Ladies Guild in Peabody was a member of the Eastern Star and while living in Florida, she was a security guard for the gated community she lived in. She loved to travel on many road trips throughout the United States and local areas as well. She enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts and playing bingo. In her younger years, she danced with the USO Dancers and taught Ball Room Dancing in Rowley. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her including her four daughters, Patricia Wojtowicz of Peabody, Nancy Wheat of Ocala, FL., Carol Varney of Yuba City, CA, and Rita Mason of Citra, FL. Her sister, Rita Sonia of Georgetown and by 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Irene Powers. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2 – 4 & 6- 8 PM. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
