Obituary of Lawrence C. "Larry" Cheever
Lawrence C. “Larry” Cheever, 91, husband of Alice R. (Gavin) Cheever of Peabody, died at his home on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
Mr. Cheever was born on December 3, 1917, in Lynn, the son of the late James L. and Ethel M. (Palmer) Cheever. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School Class of 1936. On August 21, 1942, he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as Corporal with the 410th Bomber Squadron until being honorably discharged on December 22, 1945.
Mr. Cheever began his working career at the General Electric Company in Lynn. He eventually moved into management, a position that he held for many years at the Riverworks Turbine Engine Plant, retiring in 1979 following 42 years of dedicated employment to G.E. Larry devoted his entire to his family and later was so proud of his grandchildren whom he cherished. Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508 in Peabody, the Vittori–Rocci Club and the Franco American Club both in Beverly, and as hobbies enjoyed traveling and tinkering with many projects.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence J. “Larry” Cheever of Salem, Paul E. and Marcia Cheever of Mashpee; a sister, Mary Cheever of Lynn; his grandchildren, Allison M. and Christopher Rochette of Raymond NH, Karen D. Cheever of Salem, Christopher P. and Eric P. Cheever of Sandwich; a sister-in-law, Anne Gavin of Weymouth; and many nieces and nephews. His siblings Francis and James Cheever, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia (Kustka) Cheever predeceased him.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
