Obituary of Robert F. Hegarty

Robert F. Hegarty, 81, of Peabody, died Thursday at the NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Helen Theresa Hegarty who died 2 years ago. He was born in Boston, Ma on January 24, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Grace (Sweeney) Hegarty and had was raised and educated in Charlestown. He had resided in Peabody for the past 57 years. He entered the US Navy following his graduation serving in the Pacific theatre operations aboard the LST landing boats and was a member of the Naval LSTAssociates. Following his discharge he started his career as a lineman and later a service man with the Boston Gas Company serving nearly 50 years prior to his retirement 15 years ago. He was a member of the Half Century Club of the Boston Gas Company. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Red Sox fan. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Fran Hegarty of Danvers, a brother, Daniel Hegarty of Charlestown, his three grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Jennifer Hegarty of Peabody, Sean Hegarty and Erin Arsenault of Andover and Adam and Danielle Hegarty of Lowell, five great grandchildren, Taryn, Rylie and Chloe Hegarty and Taylor and Alyson Hegarty and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Grace Burns and John “Jack” Hegarty. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5- 8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church at 10:00 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
