Obituary of William H. Wanelik

William H. “Bill” Wanelik, 87, of South Peabody, died Friday evening at the Kaplan Family House in Danvers surrounded by his family after a courageous six month battle with ALS. He was the husband of Angela (Pacewicz) Wanelik with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was born in Lynn on July 17, 1921, the son of the late Boleslaw and Rose (Brzozowski) Wanelik and was raised and educated there graduating from Lynn Classical in 1938. He later graduated from Northeastern University going to night school in 1956. He had been employed as an industrial engineer for 21 years with the General Electric Company of Lynn and later for 21 years with the Raytheon Company in Andover prior to his retirement 25 years ago. Bill was a veteran of WW 11 serving with the Navy Seabees and was a member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody. He had been very active in St. Ann’s Church serving as a head usher, teaching CCD Classes and recently as an elected member of St. Ann’s Parish Council. He had been a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, William H. and MaryAnn Wanelik Jr. of Hampstead, NH, a brother Stanley Wanelik of Lynn, his 2 sisters, Marion Gorski of Lynn and Lucy Shappi of CA, his grandchildren, Amy A. Applegate, Kristin A. Applegate, Amanda and Michael Wanelik all of NH and a great grandson, Charles Marshall of NH and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Andréa J. Applegate and the brother of the late Walter Wanelik, Francine Peters and Amelia O’Brien. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, South Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
