Obituary of Sr. Helen Thomasina Sheehan SND

Sister Helen Thomasina Sheehan, SND, 86, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Residence in Ipswich. Sr. Helen was born Catherine A. Sheehan, on January 1, 1923, in Dorchester, daughter of the late James T. and Mabel H. (Donovan) Sheehan. Sr. Helen entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Waltham on August 8, 1940. Sr. Helen received her education at Emmanuel College and Boston College. During her 69 years of religious life, Sr. Helen served in many schools including St. Augustine, St. Joseph, St. Mary, NDA, Ipswich and Hudson Catholic H.S. Sr. Helen is survived by her many Sisters of Notre Dame; 2 brothers and their spouses, William J. and Mary Sheehan of Wellesley, Paul R. and Anne Sheehan of Newton; a brother in-law, Paul Callahan of Hingham; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her siblings Francis X. Sheehan, Margaret Callahan and James T. Sheehan Jr. predeceased her. Sr. Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may pay their respects on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame Residence in Ipswich. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame retirement fund, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich MA 01938.
