Obituary of Richard Macchione
Richard Macchione, 61, husband of Marie C. (Young) Macchione of Peabody, died at his home on Sunday, July 12, 2009 with his loving family at his side.
Richard was born on May 22, 1948, in Medford the son of the late Mario and Mary (Ballerino) Macchione. He was raised in Dorchester, attended St. Gregory Grammar School in Dorchester and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Boston Class of 1966. He enlisted into the United States Air Force on June 30, 1967 attaining the rank of Sergeant. His last assignment prior to being honorably discharged on May 6, 1971 was with the 916th Air Refueling Squadron. Richard moved to Peabody 28 years ago.
Following his military service, Richard joined his father in the import / export business. After his father’s untimely death in 1971, Richard eventually became licensed as a customs broker. In 1981, he established Boston Bay Brokers. Richard was a member and treasurer of the Boston Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association, member of the OGA Committee within the NCBFAA and a member of the Foreign Commerce Club. Richard had a love for the ocean, enjoyed scuba diving and traveling. He was an avid Bruins fan but his greatest passion was following his son and daughter’s hockey accomplishments.
In addition to his wife Marie with whom he shared 28 years of marriage, Richard is survived by his children, Kevin P. Macchione and Michelle E. Macchione both of Peabody; his sister, Rita E. Macchione of Dorchester; and numerous family members, friends, and business associates.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 8:45 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062.
