Obituary of Robert T. "Sixto" Silva
Robert T. “Sixto” Silva, 56, of Peabody, died Saturday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of Edna (Hingston) Silva and the late Walter T. Silva of Peabody. Bob was a life-long resident of Peabody graduating from Peabody High School, Class of 1970. He then attended Plymouth State College. For over the past twenty years, until his recent retirement, Sixto was employed by the City of Peabody Cemetery Department.
Bob loved to play darts and had belonged to many area dart leagues throughout the years. He was also passionate about golf, and could be found on many North Shore golf courses during the summer months. As an avid Boston sports fan he witnessed the ups and downs of the local teams and reveled in the championship successes each achieved. Sixto also enjoyed college basketball and was known to travel across the country to attend college basketball tournaments. As a member of the AOH, Division 18 in Salem, Bob enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of his brother Hibernians.
In addition to his mother, Edna, Bob is survived by his brothers, Scott and Michael, and two sisters and their husbands, Lois and Bruce Lothrop and Kim and John Rocco, all of Peabody, his “dear aunt” Mary Mavroules of Peabody, and his two uncles, Dan and Joyce Hingston of Hillsboro, NH and Naples, FL, and Richard Hingston of AZ. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Bob was predeceased by his sister Linda Carson.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. in Peabody. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home, followed by a committal service at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
