Obituary of Daniel P. "Papa" Barry

Peabody - Daniel P. "Papa" Barry, Sr., 86, beloved husband of the late Anne (Penttila) Barry, died Sunday morning, July 19, 2009, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH. Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Pratt) Barry. He grew up in Waltham, and after the war he moved to Peabody where he lived for 55 years. He lived in New Hampshire for the last four years. Mr. Barry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an Inspector in the Machine Shop at Raytheon in Andover for many years before retiring 24 years ago. Daniel, known as "Papa" enjoyed walking through his neighborhood, and always invited people in for coffee or to share a meal. He served as a Union Steward with the I.B.E.W., Local 1505 when with Raytheon, and enjoyed Irish Music. He will be remembered for his dedication to family and setting a great example for family values. He is survived by: his eight sons and daughters and their spouses, Mary Ann & her husband Daniel Stewart of Lebanon, ME, Gail & her husband Everette Hydrick of North Augusta, GA, Susan & her husband James LeBlanc of Salem, Jean Smith & her late husband James of Hamden, CT, John Barry & his wife Nancy Carver of Epping, NH, Mike Barry & his wife Sarah LeClere of Northwood, NH, Sally & her husband Simeon Gagnon of Epping, NH, and Sandra & her husband Daniel Morrissey of Beverly; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Daniel P. (Mary) Barry, Jr. of Hatfield, MA; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Barry of Leominster; two sisters, Helena Barry and Martha Barry, both of Waltham, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a son Daniel P. Barry, Jr. and several brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service to be held on Thursday July 23, 2009 at 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
