Obituary of Edgar J. "Hector" St. Pierre

Edgar J. "Hector" St. Pierre, 85, of Peabody died Tuesday at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody after a long illness. He was the husband of Rita I. (Cyr) St. Pierre with whom he shared sixty six years of marriage. He was born in Salem, Ma on December 23, 1923, the son of the late Rene and Blanche (Durand) St. Pierre and educated and raised there before moving to Peabody in 1943. He was a veteran of WW 11 serving in the US Army 28th Armored tank division in Germany France and central Europe. Following his discharge he started the Hi Tone Cleaners in Salem and operated the business for forty years prior to his retirement in 1985. He had participated in and helped manage the Clippers Drum Corps and later the Blue Angels Drum Corps of Salem and was active in drum corps competition for many years. He also enjoyed doing gardening around his home. He was a communicant of St. John's Church in Peabody. Surviving him besides his wife are his eleven children, Thomas St. Pierre of Rowley, Tina Smith of Florida, Michael St. Pierre of Pennsylvania, Patricia Belanger and Arlette Slocum- St. Pierre both of Peabody, Deborah Touchette , Russell St. Pierre of So. Carolina, Edgar J. St. Pierre Jr. of Merrimac, MA, Terry St. Pierre of Peabody, Raymond St. Pierre of Beverly and Janine Carpenter of Burlington, 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Robert J. Shea and the brother of the late Blanche Kokkinos and Lucille Trainor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
