Obituary of Lena "Aunt Jo" Oteri

Lena “Aunt Jo” Oteri, 85, of Danvers, died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at her home with her loving family at her side. Lena was born on July 29, 1923, in Roxbury, daughter of the late Gaetano and Giovanna (Amanti) Oteri. She was raised in Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. From 1960 she resided in Peabody until moving to Danvers in 1997. Lena was employed for 33 years as a technical assistant at Polaroid in Cambridge until her retirement in 1982. While at Polaroid, Lena assisted Edwin Land, Physicist who invented the Polaroid camera. Lena was a devoted parishioner and active member at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Topsfield. In her own right, Lena was an artist who enjoyed painting with oil, also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing the piano for her family members and friends. She traveled extensively throughout the world where she made countless friends. Lena had a special love for Las Vegas, Foxwoods and other local casinos. Lena who was known as “Aunt Jo” is survived by her beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Her siblings John, Placido and Peter Oteri, Grace Gianino, Angie Russo and Nancy Oteri predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park St., Topsfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
