Obituary of Carlos A.S. Galopim
Carlos A.S. Galopim, 73, a well known resident of the Portuguese Community of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the NSMC – Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of 49 years of Marriage to Joaquina (Braganca) Galopim.
He was born in Galveias, Portugal on March 7, 1936, the son of the late Francisco and Elisa (Sousa) Galopim and was raised and educated there and had been a member of the Portugal Army serving in the horse Calvary before moving to Peabody, MA in 1968. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 26 out of Wilmington and worked throughout Massachusetts and Maine with the union for the past 28 years until his recent illness.
Carlos was very active in musical and parish affairs with Our Lady of Fatima Church. He had been a member of the Banda Recreativa Portugesa and the Rancho Folciorico de Peabody. He was also a member of the choir and the Curso de Cristandade of Our Lady of Fatima . He was a naturalist and enjoyed outdoor activities including his vegetable and flower gardens and was an avid hunter during the hunting seasons in New England. He had been a member of the Essex County Beekeepers Association and enjoyed making honey for all his friends. He was also a member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club and the Club Luis de Camoes of Peabody.
Surviving him besides his wife are two sons, Carlos M. Galopim of Nashua, NH and Frank B. Galopim and his companion, Nicole M. Floyd both of Peabody, a daughter, Rose Marie Galopim and her companion David C. Neto of Peabody and Portugal, two brother and sisters-in-law, Manuel S. and Noreen Galopim and Frank S. and Joaquina Galopim all of Peabody, a sister and brother-in-law, Connie G. and Antonio Pina of Middleboro, MA, his three cherished grandchildren, Duvall and Isabella Galopim and Davianna Galopim Neto and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 in his memory.
