Obituary of Shirley M. (Martin) Shields

Peabody - Shirley M. (Martin) Shields, 74, beloved wife of Raymond Shields, died Monday evening at her home after a prolonged illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Zora (Smith) Martin. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1952, and lived most of her life in the city. Mrs. Shields helped on her family's Martin Farm in West Peabody for years, and she enjoyed her role as a homemaker. She worked at Sears in Peabody for 13 years. Shirley loved nature which she enjoyed in different ways. She and her husband, Ray, enjoyed traveling the country to 49 states and seeing many memorable places in their Recreational Vehicle. She also enjoyed gardening to grow vegetables. She is survived by: her husband, Raymond Shields of Peabody, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel & Stacy Shields of Peabody; two daughters, Peggy Muise and Kathy Cameron both of Peabody; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith Martin of North Carolina; a sister, Priscilla (Martin) Chesbro of New Hampshire, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Graveside Funeral Service on Friday July 31, 2009 at 12:30 PM in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
