Obituary of Jack E. Brennan

John E. “Jack” Brennan, 62, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington following a 7 month courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Wade) Brennan with whom he shared over 36 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of Mary (Aylward) Brennan of Peabody and the late William Brennan. He was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1964. Jack worked for the city of Peabody for over 40 years as a city engineer. He was very active in the city and was a member of the Peabody Historical Society and was appointed by the mayor to serve on the Peabody Historic Commission. Jack also served on the community development committee and volunteered numerous hours for the city and many other organizations in the city. He was active and involved in local politics and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernia’s division 11 in Peabody. Jack was very proud of his Irish heritage and he enjoyed traveling with his wife on two separate occasions to Ireland and exploring his Irish roots. Family was also important to him and he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and later, his grandchildren. Besides his loving wife Susan, Jack is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and David O’Donnell of Peabody, Sarah and Brian Bousquet of Waltham, and Nora and Matthew Gavitt of Warwick, RI, a brother, William Brennan of Peabody, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Frank Graczyk and Kathryn Brennan, all of Peabody, three grandchildren, Morgan and Maeve O’Donnell and Cameron Gavitt, a niece, Christine and her husband Jeff Maguire of Peabody and is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James P. Brennan. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
