Obituary of Albert C. Bertrand Jr.
Albert C. Bertrand Jr., 79, of Brooksby Village, Peabody died Sunday evening August 2, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Odile “Dell” (Field) Bertrand. He was born in Saugus, MA on December 30, 1929, the son of the late Albert C. and Blanche (Kable) Bertrand and was raised and educated in Salem graduating from Salem High School in 1947. He had resided in Salem most of his life moving to Peabody nine years ago.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Air Force for four years as a aircraft mechanic until his discharge as a staff sergeant on August 13, 1954. Following his discharge, he started his career as an installer with the Telephone Industry, first with the N.E. Tel and Tel., then A.T.& T. Co. and later Lucent Technologies for a total of thirty years prior to his retirement in 1984.
Albert was an ardent lover of music and enjoyed listening to the Big Band Sounds of the forties and fifties. He had been a bugler for many years with the VFW drum corps of Salem and played “Taps” at many veteran funerals.
Surviving him besides his wife are a sister, Yvonne Toomey of Wenham and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Irene Poitras.
