Obituary of Rita A. (Mannion) Gilmore

Rita A. (Mannion) Gilmore, 76, of West Peabody, died Wednesday evening at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Bernard F. “Brian” Gilmore. She was born in Galway, Ireland on November 13, 1932, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Geary) Mannion and was raised and educated there. She had been a secretary for the Connaght Tribune in Galway and was active in the Legion of Mary and the Red Cross while in Ireland. She came to the United States in 1957 settling in West Peabody where she became an active member of St. Adelaide’s Church serving as co-coordinator for My Brother’s Table in Lynn by members of St. Adelaide’s. Rita was a secretary in the Data Processing Dept. at the John Hancock Life Ins. Co. in Boston for five years. She was also a member of the Propagation of the Faith but her true joy was in nurturing her family. Rita enjoyed going to the Movies and traveling and spending time with her girl friends at St. Adelaide's Church. She is survived by a son, Bernard F. Gilmore, a teacher at St. John’s Prep, Danvers and an instructor at Boston College and Boston University of Chelsea, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann P. Gilmore, a dental office manager in Cambridge and her husband, Joseph Wojtowicz both of Peabody, 2 brothers, Michael “Christy” Mannion of Chicago, IL and David Mannion of Galway, Ireland, 3 Sisters, Helen Keogh of Galway, Ireland, Kathleen Smith of Lake Placid, FL and Patricia Mannion of Danvers, MA and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St.,, West Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
