Obituary of James J. Lane, Jr

James J. Lane, Jr, 74, of Peabody, died early Sunday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Elaine (Byrne) Lane with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late James J. Lane, Sr., and Catherine (Blaser) Lane. He was raised and educated in Swampscott and was a graduate of Swampscott High School, class of 1952. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon marrying his wife Elaine, he moved to Peabody where he has lived for the past 50 years. James worked for Mass Electric as a cable splicer for over 35 years in the Malden, Everett, and Revere areas before retiring 12 years ago. James was very proud of his Irish heritage and he enjoyed traveling with his wife on two separate occasions to Ireland and exploring his Irish roots. He also enjoyed boating and golfing. Family was also important to him and he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and later, his grandchildren. Besides his loving wife Elaine, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Lane and his fiance Kathy Rael of Amesbury, Thomas and Deborah Lane of Mendon, and Michael and Cara Lane of Georgetown, two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and John Bryant of Gray, ME, and Laura and David Carlson of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Gerry and Debra Lane of Highland Ranch, CO, and is also survived by nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Christopher Lane, Andrea Coyne, and Judith Hollum. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
