Obituary of Alfred P. Gill

Alfred P. Gill, 80, husband of Shirley L. (Gerrish) Gill of Peabody, died on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem. Mr. Gill was born in Peabody, on February 20, 1929, son of the late Patrick A. and Katherine C. (Mullen) Gill. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1946 and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Gill enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of WW II and the Korean conflict being honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Gill retired in 1989 as an assistant treasurer from Genrad Inc. of Concord a position he held for 15 years. Prior to Genrad, he held data processing management positions with the Gilchrist Company, the Gillette Company and Sylvania Electric Products Inc. Mr. Gill dedicated his life to his children and later was so proud of his 9 grandchildren whom he cherished. Fraternally, he was a member of Knights of Columbus Leo Council # 508 and the A.O.H. Division 11 in Peabody, and also enjoyed traveling and meeting his friends at the NorthShore Shopping Center for coffee and morning discussions. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gill is survived by his children and their spouses, Mark E. and Ann Gill of Topsfield, Timothy F. and Stacey Gill of Ramona CA, Thomas K. Gill of San Diego CA, Richard A. and Angela Gill, and Stephen P. Gill all of Peabody; 9 grandchildren, Shannon & Liam Gill of Topsfield, Hannah and Leah Gill of Ramona CA, Riley & Samantha Gill of Peabody, Sean, Danielle and Michelle Gill of Danvers; and many nieces and nephews. His siblings Francis “Mull” Gill, Robert J. Gill and Walter M. Gill predeceased him. His funeral will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
