Obituary of Richard E. Massero

Richard E. Massero, 73, of Alfred, Maine and formerly of No Andover and Peabody,MA died Monday at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine after a long illness. He was the husband of Carol (Wetmore) Massero with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Richard was born in Peabody, MA on March 9, 1936, the son of the late Albert and Cecelia Rose (Murphy) Massero and attended St. John’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Lynn Vocational Technical School. He started his career as a machinist and later became a supervisor working at Lennar Machine Shop, Lynn, and later at Aster/ Middleton Aerospace in Middleton and then at the Union Machine Co. of Groveland prior to his retirement. He was very gifted with his hands and was proud of his accomplishments in assisting in the development of the Moon Mirrors that was used for the First US Moon Walk with Neal Armstrong. Richard was an avid fisherman and also liked to travel and take vacations with his family that he cherished. He and his family were active members at St. Ann’s Church while residing in MA. Following his retirement, Richard and his wife Carol had resided in Florida before returning to Alfred ,Maine 5 years ago. Surviving Richard besides his wife are his children, Debra Corine and her husband Robert Fleig of Hampton, NH, Richard E. Massero Jr. and his wife Kelly Anne of Chester, NH, Susan Cecelia Massero of No Andover, Pamela Ann Massero of Windham, NH and Mary Ellen and her husband James G. Mulley of Bradford, MA. Richard also leaves his six grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Descheneau of Plaistow,NH, Katie Lynn and Torie Ann Massero both of Derry, NH, Andrea C. Magoon of Salem,NH, Francine A. Poirier of Windham,NH, and Rebecca Ann Mulley of Bradford, MA, his four great grandchildren, Juliana Elizabeth Mulcahey, John Richard and Halee Ann Magoon and Julia Ann Descheneau , his two step-sisters, Theresa Thibault of Lynn, MA and Louise Glynn of Portland, ME and many nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn Street Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM. From the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, No Andover.
