Obituary of Aureolinda (Conde) Bettencourt

Aureolinda (Conde) Bettencourt, 78, of Peabody, died Thursday morning at the Radius Healthcare Nursing Center in Danvers after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Orlando Jose Bettencourt who died in 2006. She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on December 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Antonio Sousa and Magarida (Conde) Silva and had resided in Peabody for the past 31 years. She had been an assembler at the RCA Company and later acquired by General Electric Co in Burlington for 14 years prior to her retirement 17 years ago. She had been a member of the Holy Ghost Society and enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. She was very deft at crocheting and knitting and loved making quilts and afghans for others. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maria Alice and John Mendonca of Peabody, a brother, Arlindo Silva of Terceira, Azores, Portugal, 2 grandchildren, Danny Mendonca and his companion Marie Titus of Peabody and Monica Mendonca and her fiancé, William Lence of Grapevine, Texas and several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 in her memory.
