Obituary of Nora (Harrington) Murphy
Nora (Harrington) Murphy, 98, of Peabody, died early Sunday evening at the Radius Health Center in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James J. Murphy.
Born in Castletownbere County Cork Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Duggan) Harrington. She was raised and educated in Ireland and in 1929 she immigrated to the United States, settled in New York City for eleven years and has been a living in Peabody since 1940.
While living in Peabody, she was a member of the St. John’ s Ladies Sodality and the Peabody Council on Aging. She also knitted for the Christ Child Group.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Nancy Murphy of South Bend, Indiana, and Daniel and Ann Marie Murphy of Peabody; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Leo Legault of Peabody; four grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Michael Corliss, Matthew Legault, Christine and her husband Teddy Eliopoulos, and Mary Ann Murphy all of Peabody as well as several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
