Obituary of Maria Caravolas Giannias

Maria (Caravolas) Giannias, 51, of Peabody, died after a brief illness on Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Maria was born in Salem, September 18, 1958, daughter of Ethel (Kanarellis) Caravolas and the late James J. Caravolas. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Class of 1976. In 1980 she received a Bachelor of Arts from U Mass at Amherst and later pursued her education in computer programming. Maria was employed for many years as a computer systems analyst at various companies on the North Shore before taking a leave of absence to care for her mother. In addition to her mother of Peabody, Maria is survived by her brother and his wife, Dr. John J. Caravolas and Ann M. Caravolas of Newton; 2 nephews, Thomas and James Caravolas of Newton; 3 aunts, Angela “Kiki” Karavolas and Lucy Kanarellis both of Peabody, Barbara Karavolas of WI; an uncle, Thomas Kanarellis of NC and many cousins. Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a service at 10 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
